SAN DIEGO COUNTY CREDIT UNION POINSETTIA BOWL
AND KIWANIS TO REWARD AREA STUDENTS

San Diego, CA (November 1, 2006) San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl officials unveiled a program today that will reward excelling students county-wide with tickets to the second annual Poinsettia Bowl. The international service organization, Kiwanis, is underwriting the program.

While the criteria for distribution of the tickets are left to each club and their partner school, one method for distribution will be prominent. Students all around San Diego County in grades K through 12 who have perfect attendance through November will be entered in drawings to win Kiwanis-sponsored Poinsettia Bowl Family Four Packs. The packs include four game tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas and a game program.  Kiwanis purchased 1,250 packs for distribution via the program. Approximately one-third of the stadium’s view level will be filled with the winning students and their families on game night.

.“This generous contribution showcases Kiwanis’ commitment to our youth,” Poinsettia Bowl Executive Director Bruce Binkowski said in a presentation earlier today at Sweetwater Union High School. “The game’s marketing slogan is Bring the Family, and this program fits perfectly into our plans.”

“Kiwanis is so thrilled to take the lead on this project,” Kiwanis’ Governor-Elect for California, Nevada and Hawaii Oscar Knight stated. “Not only are we pursuing our goal of benefiting children, we also are going to garner national visibility and encourage people to join with local Kiwanis Clubs to help change the world one child, one community at a time.”

As part of Kiwanis’ monetary investment, the service club will serve as title sponsor of the game’s Family Four Pack and pregame family party, receive four commercial positions in the bowl game’s ESPN2 national telecast and receive banners strategically positioned along the sidelines.

The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl kicks off at 5 p.m., Tuesday, December 19 at Qualcomm Stadium. The game pits a top team from the Mountain West Conference against an at-large opponent. The inaugural game in 2005 featured a 51-30 Navy Midshipmen victory over the Colorado State Rams. The beneficiary of the bowl game is the Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego.

To purchase Kiwanis Family Four Packs and other game tickets, fans can call (619) 285-5061.  For membership information on any of the 62 Kiwanis Clubs county-wide, people can click here or call (858) 334-4270 or (619) 469-1580.
