Bowl Helps Bring Christmas to Children in Need

on .

December 18, 2008 – The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl is working to bring the holiday spirit to even more San Diegans this year. For the first time ever, the bowl has joined forces with the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to help youths in need during the holiday season. “

With our affiliation with the military here in town, it’s a natural partnership for us,” said Larry Baber, 2008 President of the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. “We hope that by holding this dropoff during our game we can do our part for children in our community. We are very grateful to the good folks at Viejas for making this endeavor possible.”

The donation drive will be held on game day. Toys will be collected starting at 3:00 p.m. at all open gates. The toys must be new and unwrapped; money is also accepted in lieu of toys. The Toys for Tots program began in 1947 when a group of Marine Reservists created an agency to deliver toys to children for Christmas. It was expanded into a nationwide program – the first of its kind – the next year.

The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl kicks off at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23rd at Qualcomm Stadium. For ticket information visit PoinsettiaBowl.net.
