Law Firm Partnership Brings Make-A-Wish Families to Game

on .

Troutman Sanders LLP is generously contributing the funds necessary to provide 600 San Diego Make-A-Wish representatives with a memorable evening at the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. Thanks to the law firm, Wish Kids and their families will be treated to the college football bowl game with tickets, a pre-game tailgate party and sweatshirts.

Kickoff for the 4th annual game is 5 p.m., Tuesday, December 23rd at Qualcomm Stadium. The game matches the #9 Boise State Broncos (12-0) against the #11 TCU Horned Frogs. “

For San Diego’s Make-A-Wish Families, this isn’t just another football game, nor is the tailgate party just another meal,” said Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego Executive Director Chris Sichel. ”This night represents for many, another year of being well, of having a stadium full of folks honor them, and is one filled with the kind of camaraderie that only those who have fought a life-threatening illness can truly understand. We have our generous friends from Troutman Sanders to thank for this very special holiday treat.”

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego has been the game’s beneficiary since its inception in 2005. Thanks to title sponsor San Diego County Credit Union, the charity receives $1 from each game ticket sold. “Wish Kids” also play important roles in the game including flipping the coin, serving as honorary captains and retrieving the tee after the opening kickoff. Hundreds also participate in a pregame parade in the charity’s honor.

“The bowl’s partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego makes this game a unique and very special event,” said 2008 Bowl President Larry Baber. “I’m so proud to live in a community that is so supportive of the local non-profit community. We can’t thank Troutman Sanders enough for this gesture.”

Troutman Sanders will be the new name of Ross, Dixon & Bell, LLP, a firm with a long history in the San Diego community. Earlier this year, the firm agreed to merge with Atlanta-based Troutman Sanders.

“We’re proud to have this opportunity to help the Make-A-Wish kids,” said Michael Whitton, a Ross, Dixon & Bell partner who will become San Diego office managing partner for Troutman Sanders. “But we couldn’t have done it without the support of the great partners, associates and staff at Ross, Dixon & Bell, who volunteered their money and gave up their holiday party so we could raise the sponsorship funds.”

When the two firms merge on January 2, 2009, they will boast an international presence with more than 785 lawyers and 15 offices in North America, Europe and Asia. Founded in Atlanta in 1897, Troutman Sanders’ lawyers provide counsel and advice in practically every aspect of civil and commercial law related to the firm’s core practice areas: Corporate, Finance, Litigation, Public Law and Real Estate. Firm clients range from multinational corporations to individual entrepreneurs, federal and state agencies to foreign governments, and non-profit organizations to businesses representing nearly every sector and industry.
