San Diego, CA – The rugby fields at Qualcomm Stadium were abuzz July 24th for the inaugural Kaiser Permanente NCAA Football Clinic. Nearly 600 boys and girls aged 6 to 14 participated in this San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl event, making it far and away the largest such clinic in the country.

This was a free event for all participants.

“What a day,” said Bruce Binkowski, executive director of the bowl game. “We’re so grateful to everyone who made this event possible. I really think the kids will remember the great time they had for years to come.”

The day began with a motivating speech by XX Sports 1090’s John Kintera. Then it was time to play some football. Coaches from San Diego State University, the University of San Diego and elsewhere led the kids through drills and instruction. The day was capped with a lunch that was generously donated by Peartrees Catering.

Kids also received complimentary event t-shirts and more.

Several bowl corporate partners joined the bowl game and NCAA Football to make the event possible, including Kaiser Permanente, Peartrees Catering, San Diego County Credit Union, Cox Communications, 105.7 The Walrus, XX Sports Radio, PowerAde, Goldfield Stage, Old Town Trolley Tours and San Diego Family Magazine.

NCAA Football is hosting youth clinics in 22 bowl cities across the country. This program is part of the organization’s greater initiative of reaching kids who “dream of playing the game.”
